YA Onscreen: A Glimpse Of THE SUN IS ALSO A STAR

It’s a good afternoon here on YA Onscreen because while “The Big Game” (or, as my husband put it, “the worst Super Bowl ever”) did not give us any exciting plays or scores, it did give us a lot of entertainment goodies. Join me as I watch them for the first time (because I spent my Sunday evening more productively: reading an awesome book).

Tuesday was a wealth of riches. We’ve got our first look at the movie adaptation of Nicola Yoon’s The Sun Is Also a Star featuring Yara Shahidi and Charles Melton, PLUS a teaser trailer below. I hope this is as good as the book. I do not see a red tie in in the teaser, which is a shame. The full trailer should be released today is here!

Let’s keep both the teaser (above) and the full trailer (below) in case there are different moments shown. A scientific comparison, if you will:

In unsurprising news (because you know after the success of The Hate U Give, anything Angie Thomas wrote after would be gold), Fox 2000 has already purchased the film rights to Thomas’ latest book (out yesterday!), On The Come Up.

New Captain Marvel teaser, not much new info:

But the Avengers: Endgame teaser does have a few new scene tidbits (just come out alreadyyyyy):

To infinity and beyond, Toy Story 4:

And the good, the bad, and the ugly of the rest of the Super Bowl ads. Which was your favorite?

The Party of Five reboot is officially on with a 10-episode order on Freeform. No word on exactly when it will premiere.

The Riverdale spin-off, Katy Keene, has claimed its first actress from the original show. Josie, played by Ashleigh Murray, will be leaving Riverdale and heading to NYC to pursue her music career alongside Katy.

Still no official start date, but an adaptation of the comic, Y: The Last Man, is moving forward at FX with Diane Lane as the star (plus a few other recognizable ladies).

Legion’s third season will be its last, but that’s okay because that’s how the creators wanted it.

After Crazy Ex-Girlfriend ends on April 5, they are gracing us with one last gem: a concert special featuring a handful of the amazing songs they’ve sung over four seasons. Amusingly titled: “Yes, It’s Really Us Singing: The Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Concert Special!

If you’re a fan of The Craft, then you may want to book it out to the Monster-Mania Con in March, as all four Craft ladies will be in attendance.

There’s discussion for a Gossip Girl reboot, but nothing confirmed (and there shouldn’t be. It hasn’t even been TEN years since it ended. Let it get cold in its grave. Also, seriously rethink your whole Chuck/Blair dynamic because there’s no way that should fly post-#MeToo era).

There Hollywood goes, taking something they got a surprising hit out of (remaking Jumanji) and going a step too far with a sequel to that movie. All four teen cast members are set to return.

NBC got scared (I assume) after seeing the dismal ratings for Fox’s live musical for Rent, so they’ve scrapped their upcoming live show of Hair and will reconvene with more family-friendly fare in the future. Can’t say I’m unhappy because that is a musical I have zero interest in. Just, please, God, no Frozen.

That’s all for the week. If there’s any news we missed, add it to the comments below!
