YA Onscreen: The Most Exciting Book Adaptation News This Year

Welcome back after a mini break from YA Onscreen! I missed you guys! We’ve got a lot of trailers to watch this week, so in the interest of saving time during your lunch break, enough chit-chat! On to the news!

Welp, it’s apparently official that Harry Styles will be playing Prince Eric. Yawn at this basic choice. Y’all didn’t even TRY, Disney.

In OMG we’re flipping out right now here at FYA headquarters!! news, Rebecca freaking Serle is going to write the pilot for an adaptation of Megan freaking McCafferty’s Jessica Darling series. We will finally see Marcus Flutie in the flesh!

The best, worst, and weirdest moments at the Teen Choice Awards this year.

More hype about the Amazon Original, Carnival Row

Remember Rufio from Hook? His real name is Dante Basco and he and his family wrote and are starring in a dark romantic comedy about in his directorial debut entitled, The Fabulous Filipino Brothers

And now, for your visual interest, a host of trailers:

First up, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. I know I liked the original as a kid but I will definitely need to go back and rewatch because it’s been ages.

There is finally a trailer for Greta Gerwig’s Little Women adaptation and it looks, honestly, pretty great:

The newly released trailer for Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding’s rom-com Last Christmas! I will warn you, it’s LONG, like many trailers, and I feel like it tells you a LOT.

I guess this trailer for Can You Keep a Secret?, an adaptation of one of Sophie Kinsella’s novels, isn’t supposed to be out yet since I can only find it on a Turkish movie channel, but whatever, here it is!

Not so much a trailer as a teaser, but The Crown will be returning in November with Olivia Colman as the Queen:

I haven’t had a chance to sit down and watch the full episodes yet, but these sketches that HBO has been putting on YouTube of their new series, A Black Lady Sketch Show, are cracking me up (my fave is the Bad Bitch Support Group):

That’s it for the week! Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
